Game information
Shift At Midnight is a cooperative online horror game set in a remote 1990s gas station, where you and up to two friends must survive the graveyard shift. Not every customer you serve will be human, and your job is to spot the impostors before it’s too late. Between checking IDs, watching behaviors, and making split-second decisions, every shift brings a new wave of tension. One mistake could allow something dangerous to slip past your guard, turning a routine night into a desperate fight for survival.
Each customer can be asked only a limited number of questions, so every word matters. The goal is to use these interactions to determine whether you are dealing with a regular person or something more sinister. Examining IDs, cross-checking computer records, and reading subtle behavioral cues become your primary tools. The challenge lies in balancing suspicion with logic—accuse the wrong person, and you might lose trust; miss the right one, and the consequences could be deadly.
Players can expect the following elements to shape each session:
These mechanics create a blend of investigative tension and survival horror that changes with every shift.
If a hostile creature escapes your scrutiny, the game shifts from investigation to immediate survival. Doors must be barricaded, traps set, and hiding places secured. The calm, investigative pace of the shift quickly gives way to frantic, high-stakes action. In these moments, every second counts—whether you’re alone or coordinating with friends, hesitation can mean the difference between making it to sunrise or becoming another victim.
Shift At Midnight is designed for replayability, with random events, varied customer behaviors, and unpredictable outcomes each night. Playing with friends adds layers of strategy, from dividing roles to coordinating defenses when things go wrong. The developers have made a free singleplayer demo available on Itch.io, with a multiplayer demo planned upon reaching a wishlist milestone on Steam. By supporting the project, players can help bring the full cooperative experience closer to release while enjoying an intense mix of deduction and survival in the meantime.
